Region code

Latest reply from the technical support mentioned that my problem of not getting daily schedule e-mail from Live Calendar could be caused by problem with the region setting.

I used EN interface, but my profile is in the ID region. For this, they suggested I try changing my profile region to US or GB. Well, let’s try.

It’s not my style

To do those “this year in review” type of thing, nor doing happy new year. So… as final minutes of this year is running out, the last small question I can think of right now is…

Anyone know the script to cleanup Vista’s system restore’s restore point using Powershell ?

That’s the style I’d like to continue to next year. And talking of next year, I know I had to learn more programming despite being unrelated to my job description now.

I’m worried about the health test. Although without proper medical check up statement, I think my blood pressure is lower, as well as my white blood cell level, which easily translate as not so fit.

Besides, I think I need to check up and hope nothing is already wrong with my kidneys. It’s not that I drink too little water (maybe not enough, but definitely not too little lately), but I also often goes to the toilet and throw those precious liquid I drink down to the sewer.

But, even so, there’s also a lot other activities I want to do, such as continue writing with consistent progress (which I’m not currently). Time really flies so quickly in daily scale.

Latest report

Of the reddish dots on my skin. After the fever last Christmas, since yesterday, reddish dots shows up on my skin, especially my arm and torso, and my upper legs whose intensity of colour is going up and down. Latest up is today after I’m taking a bath.

There’s no specialist doctor to analyze what this is yet. Current suspect is measles (?)

And I hope the certain aching at the upper of my left waist’s back is simply muscle problem and nothing that I’ll need an internist and stockpile of money ready to burn to handle.

Random

I just need some sort of viral badge for this.

Check out my Live!

Or something like that. It’s spontaneous, so I had a feeling it could be better if just such copywriting is my forte, which is not.

Space Template

I know this is really late, but I’ve just realized recently.

Did Live Space removed the Template from page customization ?

Templates are an easy first step in customizing Live Space based on preset focus. For example, for story teller, that focused on the Blog module, or photographer, that focus on the Album module, or for gamer with activated XBox modules.

It’s not half bad, right? Not really that intrusive either. I’d even enjoyed if they provide a template for Profile’s detail view so the person can rearrange and expose some details more, for example a professional profile that exposes more about professional information rather than personal. Or for photographers, with a clump of random pictures from Photo album.

A Revenge

After I can’t get out at all, and a cancelled appointment yesterday, and another things, today I get out and want to relief some stresses.

At least that’s the plan. I picked a place by nostalgic memories, somewhere near the place I worked in last year. The price around that place is bloody high, I’m three quarter broke.

2008-12-28 001 (1024x768) But, this is really Sunday isn’t it. The sky is bright. So bright actually that my camera’s auto white balance produced such blue colour. :P

I think I had to start learning post-processing rather than just throwing everything out right from the memory card.

Ah, the place, like I said, expensive. The pasta is delicious though.

Then, snow is enchanting isn’t it, especially to peoples in countries that doesn’t have them. Some shopping malls here made snowfalls show (using something like tiny soap foams). Because the weather is so bright, the sunlight came in from the skylight and the “snow” sparkles in shape of the rays. No picture taking in the building though, although many doesn’t care.
And careful about looking up, it burns a bit if the foam hits your eyes.

There’s also a show, with press photos from all over the world. I only see some in a glimpse, but they really motivate to try looking for pictures that’s more inspiring.

2008-12-28 014 (768x1024)

Don’t have much interesting to show though. My shots has been blurry today, maybe I’m too hurried. Only have pictures of trees, a weird box in an empty lot next to the police headquarter… ah! and the sunset that made me run up to the highway to chase a moment.

A moment too late though. I don’t want to go down from the bus too early because of cost. This is the negative side of not having my own transportation.

The last one I actually imagined Jupiter’s red spot, but other than blurry, it didn’t really capture my impression of it. What a waste.

不幸だ!

In another chapter of holiday misfortuneS, I awake this morning to find that the primary monitor of my desktop unit can’t turn on. it turns on, but the light just blinks and screen is blank. The speaker is also not working, so I really suspect it’s the monitor rather than my graphic card, after all, my secondary monitor (older) is working just fine. Well, that’s what I get for taking local brand I guess.

Because of holiday season, the service centre seems to be closed until January.

Random unrelated thing, Live Space’s layout is rather limited isn’t it? Compared to a table, I want a colspan layout. This way, I can put Profile and Network module each for 40% wide, but under it, the Blog module spans 80% width. I help saves space a lot. Blog module looks better in wider form, but other doesn’t need to be that wide.

Alien head, Lettuce head, Aching head

2008-12-24 003 (768x1024)

Found this when walking up the crossing bridge from bus stop in front of Senayan. Realistic speaking, it’s a plant of palm family.

But the shape is like Alien’s head. Plus, the shape of those seeds (?) hanging down looks like the braided hair of a Predator, despite the green colour.

Enjoyed this finding *laugh*

And the second one is from above the bridge.

Red sky. Well, always liked the scene. This is also from December 24th.

My plan is, going out for dinner that night, alone. After several consideration, such as free internet (want to type a story or review, but my drafts are kept in Office Live Workspace), the crowdedness (more time and solitude), I choose the place last time I spent hours chewing bowls of salads like a herbivore. The manager in that place still remember my face ( ̄◇ ̄;)
But I’m the type that’s easy to remember anyway. My behaviour pattern is almost identical every time.

After four or five dishes, I decided… went back home, worried about traffic congestion which is nonexistent. Should’ve spent more time until midnight.

Being in the tropic, it doesn’t matter if this is December. The air is hot, which in turn became the source of my problem. Sweaty from the street, straight into building with aircon, then out again, and in again. Repeat several time, plus a generous amount of night wind when riding the bus… my Christmas is coloured with fever, tired body and headache (ノд-。)

Felt better today though. Hope I can make it for tomorrow’s appointment.

The most difficult Web Activity by far

Must be Photobucket, as far as the small fraction of services I’ve added.

I had to try many times just to get this reply.

We can't get your information right now. Please try again later.

I doubt the problem is on Windows Live’s side though. I tried adding the same album to FriendFeed for probably 10 times already, and none succeed.

Closing to the goal

For me, winter is the night of the year. Solstice is then, the midnight.

In some culture I know, Christmas, or the winter solstice, is not supposedly the greatest celebration. For Christian, it should be the Resurrection. For pagan, new year in Shamhain is more celebrated isn’t it? (CMIIW)

But in popular, Christmas seems to be the best season to sell things. The mood of celebration seems to be the highest in the season. Not only because of Santa Claus lore… maybe it’s the image of a romantic white Christmas, a night spent waiting for something, just like the New Year eve, only bigger in a way.

If the night it midnight, then as my idea of excitement, the closer to the goal (new year, midnight), the mood of celebration escalates. After that, it’s freefall.

I’ve also heard, the Chinese if I’m not mistaken, that a king’s greatest number is 99. This is because he’s already in his glory, but not the end of the line yet. Perfect 100 means there’s nothing after, passed his prime. So, 90 or 99, you’re already at your best, but not bestest yet, there’s still more power waiting.

Same as Christmas IMO is 90. Although the excitement falls after the eve, there’s still something left. After all, holiday season still lasts. New year, in the other hand, is another beast. After that, a new year starts, no longer in ideal dreams, but in real world problems.

Not working

Another run trying to hack a Japanese input to my Windows Mobile phone. Not working at all. Tried alternative too, which doesn’t really works.

CE-Star works, although it still missed some words. This seems like a reasonable alternative if I’m to keep this phone until Windows Mobile 7 (6.5 is ridiculous?). Well, if I had a nice bonus next year and there’s a bargain priced second-hand Omnia, I might switch (because of the lack of both legal and illegal apps for smartphone device).

This ruled out my rules for next device. Which OS had this feature out of the box. If Windows Mobile 7 happened to not have this feature… oh well, there’s alternative, besides, Windows Live for mobile is available to other OS too.

Administration works

2008-12-22 001

Today, I got a call from the human resource. Nothing bad actually, I just have to sign work extension contract for next year.

After that, I went to the general HR department to take photo for my new ID card.

To my regret, I forgot to bring my camera, so had to settle with phone camera. The sky is bright, but that’s not it. The general HR is in building called Unit 2, one of the oldest building in the complex. It has this elevator, which I suspect is older than me. An employee I met in there said it’s probably from around the 80s. It has the neon light with easy access, a simple exhaust fan like I had in my toilet, and a set of very retro-looking panel, both the button and the floor indicator lamp.

Before that, I regret not bringing my sunglasses. The sun is so bright today when I went to bank to finish the administration for my lost cards. In the first bank, I got queue number 50. CS is (not: singular) is servicing number… 26. Bye bye, I go to the second bank first.

There, the administration went on smoothly. I then go back, and the queue is 37. Well, because seems like many had retired from waiting, I decided to wait rather than going out to the street looking for lunch, which is a bad idea, because although almost 7 peoples is already not present by then, it still took so long. The CS is always underwomanned (rarely see male staff there).

By the way, job went on until 24. The HR declared, because they mentioned nothing, rumour of half day work in 24 will be rumour and not reality. In addition, 29 and 30 is a full effective working day except to those taking their days off.

I still had a lot of jobs to do. Hope to finish them in the next two days in full speed.

2008-12-22 016

The bus came quickly today, so I didn’t climb up to the crossing bridge to take pictures.

These, I got from in front of my house. The kind of cloud formation that looks like it came out of an alien movie. The rays looks like spotlight from behind :D

But my favourite today is from this angle. Maybe it’s the shade of the branches.

Overlaps

Continuing yesterday’s exploration to FriendFeed, I wonders. There are so many online services of the same kind. I’m sure most used more than one.

The question is, how do you use those services with minimum overlaps ? For example, it’s not fun to upload same set of pictures two three or four photo sharing services. And it’s not funny posting the same thing to Twitter, IM status message and Facebook’s status message at once (especially if you have all of them aggregated using another service such as Live homepage or FriendFeed.

Journals are generally easier, if they’re separated per topics.

Anyone have tips to share ? :)

Stupa? Eruption cloud?

2008-12-21 001 (1024x768)

Found this in the fridge. Actually my mother showed it off during dinner time.

Probably still a relative of broccoli, but the shape is…

Well, I’m speechless, and not in any bit, interested in consuming that, the shape is too weird (^_^;)

Time wasting

Because all my plans are ruined today… well, just idle doing. I think I should’ve learned new things (interested in Silverlight) or do something (e.g: start reviewing Dogs BnC) but can’t find the mood to do it.

Ah, I tried checking on FriendFeed too. I had several accounts that are included in their 59 partners. Well, I particularly like that they include Hatena too, with feed for Bookmark, Diary and Fotolife (Haiku is too overwhelmingly fast it seems).

The idea is similar to the new Windows Live homepage, even though FriendFeed is earlier in the concept. Here is some parts that I like of it.

  • Imaginary friends. So we can follow activities of peoples who doesn’t have an FF account.
  • “We are constantly adding new sites. Help us prioritize by suggesting a site.”

Especially the second one, I really look forward for Windows Live to implement That too, showing to the users that they also have the initiative to actively open communication and partnership with the various service providers.

BTW, my name there is “seika”.

I also added two web activity for pictures site. Live Photos is still too restrictive in respect that the user can’t move and merge folders. Also I’m worried about the change in policy about maximum storage rather than maximum upload per period.

I guess, I’ll keep the bulk of photos in Flickr (luckily still have my Yahoo account) and PhotoBucket for screencaps, while in Live Photos just for special picks.

24 Hours Rewind

Yesterday, I went to the animation movie festival. Well, in the end I don’t think many had high hope on the event, despite being held in one of the theatre that market itself as for elite class.

Firstly for me, the event is held at noon. Compared to the usual movie festivals that are held at night, the exclusiveness is gone, replaced by a more “family friendly” image. The problem is, those are teenage movie not suitable for kids (ー_-;)

Also, this is not like usual movie festival, this is simply a promotion event. Well, of course, the picture quality showed is clearly subpar, probably from VCD media. The translation is horrible that me and my girlfriend decided to ignore the subtitle and just listen to the spoken words.

The two movies we watched is in the first session, Allison and Lilia and Crystal Blaze. We enjoyed guessing the voice actresses, some are easily recognizable.

The first one is clearly a win as expected, it has a balanced mood although being just one episode from series adapted of novel. The second one, at first I’m not too interested, but the story of this first episode is fun.

Not unexpected though, most animation series played in that formula, first is introduction with an equal amount of comedy to the seriousness and bringing the audience closer with the character. Then it starts going downfall about 1/3 to 1/4 to the end, when things starts getting depressing and overly serious.

Had a gathering with friends from an online forum. They went back later for the next session, but I went around for a date as planned (^ー^)

Saw an HTC S740 in the shop. It sells IDR 200k cheaper that mine (the older model). But I’ve decided to held back buying new phone until 2010 when Windows 7 phone is out (except if this one failed, I might save to buy Nokia N97). Anyone have a suggestion about phones that support Japanese input ?

She suddenly had an urgent call from her mother. By the way, did I mentioned that the wall in the cinema is too thick for phone signal ? I guess they doesn’t trust the audience will turn their phone silent and just block out the signal instead.

Okay, the problem is, one of their family’s cars are broken and she need the other car as soon as possible. So we only have a little time to go down and look for snack. The turkey and tuna sandwich is out of stock for the day though. I settled down with a pack of Caesar Salad. The lettuce is crunchy and tasty. (*´ー`*)

Well, didn’t do much out of ordinary, as usual. Just talk quickly and a lot about many things, especially telling stories and idea for stories.

And this morning when I woke up, a huge rain falls, for a while. Our clouds seems to still have bad stamina for spurts like that.

Sharing Calendar

Windows Live have a feature called Live Groups. This is a groupware for small community which have among features, shared calendar and discussion board.

Although the useful feature, there is a shortcoming in this. As any such online service, you’ll need a Live ID.

But if what you need is simply sharing your personal calendar, you can also use Live Calendar.

Calendar_share_1First, in your Live Calendar, click the “Share” in the menu. It will bring out list of your Calendars. For this example, I choose my main calendar.

 Calendar_share_2

You will then be redirected to this page. Choose depend on your need.

Calendar_share_4 If the peoples you want to share to had Live ID also, you could choose the first option. You can send them e-mail with invitation. You can specify what they could see also. If they accept the invitation, they will add an imported calendar (yours) to their own.

  • View events: read-only access. They can see the detail of your events (except privates) but can’t edit.
  • Only view Free/Busy time. They can only see if you’re free or busy at a specific time without details of what made you busy. Enough to plan an event and check if you’re available.
  • View, edit and delete events. They can do anything except making new events.
  • Make them co-owner. Same as above plus access to create new event.

Calendar_share_3

Here is what if you want to share to the more general public. There are three options, HTML, ICS and XML. The links are not active yet before you save your settings.

  • HTML link shows a read-only view of your Calendar.
  • ICS link can be imported into other calendar application, such as Outlook, Windows Calendar, or in other online service such as Yahoo or Google.
  • XML link can be viewed in RSS reader.

After you save, you could send the link by e-mail, IM, post-it notes or dictate it through phone, although the last two doesn’t sounds like a good idea.

The possible application for this is… sharing your calendar. Imagine, sharing your calendar with family or close friends. They could check when you’re free before making invitation, or decide the time after considering everyone’s free/busy schedule.

Groups calendar is better if you only want to share group related events, but it’s also more convenient to share to many at once.

The shortcoming of this is, on the receiver side, they will add another calendar to their own. If they take dozens of such share, it will be cluttered. Outlook with Exchange do better in this.

Regularly now

Of the late, it rained regularly in the evening. Been probably two weeks or more. It starts with evening rain, but then now, maybe it will rained more often during dusk. Other than uncomfortably-oily skin and wet hair due to the high moisture in the air, I have no problem. Well, maybe it’ll be problem if it rained heavy this Friday, I planned on going to a local Facebook user gathering (although I’m rarely active in the network group lately).

Received another script to edit today, and another one most likely coming in this week… correction, two more most likely coming in this week.

In addition, the section chief is in high title-hunt mood for new titles to be licensed next year. The package from Japan (from when a colleague went there to hunt for books) has arrived. Had to admit, the lack of some books (especially those needed quick) is not in the package. But then, she only had one day in the tight schedule in-between meetings with publishers, to hunt for the books. But we had an offer, a popular title.

This means, in addition in work load, we have to start to check for modification in pictures. Yes, the culture here sucks that they have to censor any single nudity and over-violence (in the original country, it passed out just fine). I had… 14 books waiting on my desk to be checked Σ( ̄д ̄ノ)ノ

Had to finish the editing soon.

There’s also something different in the schedule planning meeting. No, the snack (my main motivation of attendance (;^ω^A) is still the same. But there’s peoples from the other division (or company). From the planning of January’s week 1, the two publishing will plan for schedule together. But they’re still not used to the workflow here.

PS: about the rain, I start to think about it. Nik commented once that he doesn’t have colour of sky like in the picture I took several days ago around his place. I think, it’s the weather too. It’s rainy season now, so perhaps there’s more particle in the air so only longer wavelength passed through. Behind the rain cloud, the sunlight lit the sky in bright golden colour.

Nice thing of watching alone

Went to watch "The day Earth stood still" alone.

Despite still in Tuesday, the theater is packed.
But I'm kind of lucky because there's one seat left in the dead centre of the room. Only one.

Not bad isn't it?

Year end payment

Firstly, the government office here is really… It’s been a month and I still hasn’t got the replacement for my ID card!? The assumption would be, this is year end and they needed “extra income”. I guess, the lesson I get is, separate my cash wallet and card wallet.

Talking about extra income… I think I found the title I want to review next. Lately, I think I prefer doing it on the comic book, preceding review of the movie adaptation. Reason is easy. First, the magazine I’ll be sending it have a policy of waiting for the airing to finish, which by then, the buzz is already over (common thing for most animation). Then, if I waited too long, when the movie starts and become popular, there would be review all over the place by peoples riding the bandwagon. So, hitting it earlier is more pleasant. :P

”K-On!” and “Dogs –Bullets & Carnage–”; and maybe “Hitsugi Katsugi no Kuro”, if I could just find which CD I kept the second volume’s scan.
The first one might just be a page long though, after all, 4-panel comics. The second one, I got the scan for book 1, plus book 2 and 3 is in the office for reading. The only problem would be, Bullets & Carnage is a sequel works for an earlier short story compilation comic. which I had no access to currently.

By the way, I went to the supermarket last Sunday and can’t believe how much dried basil cost. Is Basil really an expensive herb ?
