The new office space

Finally, the moving is finished, at least from our part. Tomorrow, they will start moving the books from that packed room (damn it doesn’t pass my mind to take picture of it).

Anyway, the new floor is still under cleaning and some installation works. There’s not much ready room with lock, one of them is the comic editorial division’s library room (would fill up with stacked boxes in say… half a year ?). So, the other editorials (kids, management, computer, motivation, etc.) stack their stuffs in there first.

By some office politics I assume, they starts earlier from yesterday, leaving us with excess rooms as available. That room, I estimate is about… 10+2 M2. Our editorial department has… about 2–3 dozens of boxes (likely more) packed full with books to be put inside.

P1010009 (1024x768) So, the new spot. That is the floor spotted by paint from yesterday’s paint job. The clean part is covered by mobile drawer the day before. The distinction is clear enough to be witnessed isn’t is.

Had the window behind me, meaning glare on the monitor. The view is not pretty, only neighbouring tower and the parking lot. By the way, the lower frame of the window is about as high as my neck.

P1010013 (768x1024)

And here is my new work desk, yet to have the computer and monitor unit. Also in hope of getting an LCD screen to save space but unlikely in this company and this time in economy.

Although, there are rumour that the production division of the other part of the company does get new monitor screen while editors here doesn’t get an upgrade for computer unit after 2 years of request.

Another picture.

Clients

Like what I tweet about this afternoon, I finally tried Thwirl and TweetDeck and noticed both as Adobe AIR application. Seeing this, I’m curious about if there’s any Silverlight or WPF application for social networking. In particular, my main interest would be for FriendFeed, Twitter and Facebook (well… Live too, but not putting my hopes too high).

The search hasn’t been so fruitful though.

Chirp is a client for Twitter, although in my case it often failed to get updates. But could be my internet connection.

Hubbub… well, looks good, but the application Windows seems to force itself to be always on top, and thus taking out my screen estate.

bTT is… I’m not sure, because I always get the SQL CE 3.5 dependence error when trying to download and install it.

Anyone had more ideas ? I’ll try the product from AIR for now.

Social incentive

Rather than taking the social aspect of Facebook as many mentioned about the new Live Profile, I prefer categorizing it as a life streaming service like FriendFeed.

Anyway, that’s not the topic. I think I read this from Marcus somewhere and I surely agree. Those aggregator service is making us utilize more online service than before.

Live’s 50 services will be open in some time, but ever since I got into FriendFeed, been using more service myself, as well as reactivating my older accounts.

Let’s see… joined Twitter, LinkedIn, StumbleUpon, Mixx, started updating status in Facebook, uploading pictures to Photobucket and Flickr again. Also joined GoodReads, although hasn’t started making reviews. Not just merely joining, but with a motivation to put lot of meaningful entries there.

How about you ? Are these life aggregator services made you more active in your online life ?

Chinese New Year

The code is “Petak Sembilan” for me, referring to the news this morning. Petak Sembilan is an area in Jakarta’s China town district where there is a temple there.

After the new government, Chinese cultural activities that has been banned by the government (by reason of unity) has been abolished and held again (probably to get popularity from Chinese ethnics who hold much of the economic power at that time).

Anyway, one of the most popular Chinese new year tradition in Indonesia is hungbao (red packet), envelope with money given by those who already had settled live (family & income) to younger relatives, subordinates, etc. Yes, we loved money ever since we’re young ^^

The temple in that area had a custom of giving those hungbao to the poor. The money came from donation to the temple. But because of the economic depression, donation had decreased, so they can’t give much, much to the disappointment of peoples already expecting it.

Same as my case. I get none :P

As usual, we doesn’t go to too much relatives’ house. This one we went to is… you could say the wealthy one of the extended family, big house and such.

My mouth still hurts as hell. Don’t know the English word for it, but it’s a kind of minor oral infection I often get. A lot of peoples, talking about things I’m not having a single spec of interest in.

Well, I could go out and look at the pond where the owner of the house keep more than a dozen of koi carp, which I mentioned, failed carp because released in the wild, they’re sitting duck for predators with those colours ^^; Well, I don’t understand the beauty of fishes, they’re consumable carp in my eyes :D

Before going home, a relative (uncle? not sure) told about child of another relative once throw stones into the pond (children) and made the fishes got stress and died (we’re talking about close to 100 Euro or more per fish here). Ever since the incident, they never came again.

Family lunch in KFC. Long time since I visited the Colonel :D

By the way, there is a sun eclipse this afternoon. Like my favourite quote, “Man proposes, shit happens”, cloud hung over the sky from probably 4 in the morning and it rains continuously (not the hard-soft-hard badly rhythmic pattern as usual) up to about 1 in the afternoon.

I like it, the air is cool, and well… I like the view of the world when it rained much as during sunset. Too bad, knowing it’s eclipse today, that means can’t expect tomorrow to not be terribly hot.

What are stars made of?

Found this old advertisement for Windows Live Messenger and Live Spaces. Well, with wave 3, it’s mostly outdated, since the star has been replaced by What’s New feed.

But I found the message catchy anyway.

What are stars made of?

Great weekends, nights out and laughter.

New year eve

As I told previously, usually on (Chinese) new year eve, we gathered the whole extended family… well, from my father’s side. And because my father is the eldest son, everybody gathers here for family dinner.

Addition to that, there is tradition that during new year, there must not be any cleaning or washing. Everything washed away will bring this year’s luck with them (talking about layoff). This means, who dish washing had to be finished tonight.

Personally, it’s noisy, too many peoples coming and I’m feeling under the pressure from parents that want to see me socializing more with them.

My grandfather doesn’t come this year, so the party ended sooner.

There is a shred of hope. Seems like we’ll try dining out for next year. :D

By the way, about the thing I mentioned in Twitter. Does hot chocolate equals to something like thick melted chocolate bar? I’m not too familiar with it, but I’m more used to cocoa drink that has the consistency about the same as cup of coffee. Well, I could get milk added and thinning the drink a bit. Taste better, although still too sweet in my opinion.

PS: no, no Photosynth for the party :D

Mini gathering

After a long time, had a mini gathering with friends from the Animindo forum (Indonesian language). Had the captain, Myd-oyaji, Tsu and his soon-to-be wife (congrats and good luck) and Zeph.

I cancelled trying to go and buy that Western Digital World Book II casing (second hand product with the hard drive removed). Actually if I count it, the overall cost is smaller than if I bought a new 2 TB unit, because I can first put one 1 TB drive inside and add the second one later. But the short warranty period made me worried. I guess I’ll wait for the sale.\

Met with Gi-chan there, in a cafe, before the others arrived. She’s playing Gyakuten Saiban so I set up for her an account in FriendFeed as well as adding Twitter web activity to her Live Profiles. Also stream Candy Boy eps 5 (NicoNico Douga).

Ah, one time I went to the toilet without bringing my messenger bag. The arcade to the toilet is quiet, and for a moment, I get the feeling like living in there. Well, might be random thought mixed with the silent noise from somewhere, and dress mood.

There’s call, and we have to go to the bank as soon as possible. After that then we met with the others. She’s taking many books, although that’s merely half of it, I think :D

Random talk as usual, sharing recent experiences. Also read Shounen Ace magazine, although that’s irrelevant.

The plan is extended until near 18.00. We split up, most go home. When both of us are heading back home, rain falls. Since the rain is quite hard, I decided to wait and get a dinner.

Compared price and finally settled down, and thinking I’ll spend up much. The salad, I should asked for extra lemon juice for the olive oil I asked as replacement for the dressing. One thing that interest me is, why do the waiters smile like that to me. It’s not the friendly smile, but as if there’s something funny with my face. I’m not offended, only curious.

The rain stopped when I’m heading home. That rain last only for a while, not even enough to cool down the heat pools in this city.

Greens nearby

P1000980 (1024x768)

Yes, some long waiting for the bus before going home today. The street is terribly jammed, probably because everyone is going home early for the long weekend (Saturday, Sunday, Chinese New Year).

Walked up the flyover bridge and had a moment with this scene. Most likely it’s a government owned land that’s unused. But that is not a public park, it’s legally a restricted area (I think) although the peoples in the neighbourhood seems to be using it for things such as throwing away thrashes.

P1000982 (1024x768)

This one is a little different. Well, at the side of the flyover, there is a street with various small carpenter shops. These shops are built using simple wooden structures and with zinc roofs. Those are built on pedestrian and street side that’s used for planting trees. In fact, there are still line of coniferous trees that grows out from holes cut on the roof for those trees. Inside, the tree might already be incorporated with the structure itself.

My interest is above the rooftop. Leaves dries and falls onto the roof. Over time, it collects to a porous layer that’s naturally become a medium for smaller wild plants to grow on it, as that picture up there :D

Bat

Saw a bat in the elevator room. (^-^)

Actually a friend found it when she got back. Small (about size of my palm), black, hanging upside down. Seems to be curious when I walk around taking picture of it.

End of…

The rubber sandal I wore in office. Rather than wearing shoes, most of us rather keep our private sandals in the office to go around the place. Our feet also have more room to breath.

In my previous working place, that rented a floor of office building in city’s central business district, the floor is covered with carpet, so I usually walk around barefooted during office hour (except when moving to another floor or having meeting with general manager or executives of course).

But in this new place, because it’s own building, the floor is covered with tiles. Judging from the sole of my feet, it’s dustier here too, so sandal is a good choice. It also provides emergency footwear in event of flood.

Had one, made of rubber with white and green colour. the strap of my right sandal is severed, although I think it’s still fine the day before. Need to find new one.

It’s been a tiring day. The weather is also so hot, no rain whatsoever although this is supposed to be the short lived moment when rain would fall. Sad for me, because starting February until the next December, there might not be any more rainfall. Even this year’s rainy season only gave short-lived intermittent showers.

Made me moody and easily upset. This is why I hate hot weather.

Nice sleep

Yesterday night, my brother brought home DVD of Doomsday. Watched it with him and although I don’t think it might sell well here, it’s the type of movie I really enjoyed. Well, there are three types of movies I like, first is creature movies & milder slasher (even if they look second rate), second is sci-fi. Last but not least, comedy and parody.

The movie is too short in my opinion, some scene seems disparate from the others. The final scenes could’ve been cut shorter. During that part, it felt almost as long as the rest of the movie itself.

Today, thanks to sleeping late, I go to the sofa at the back of the office today and try to take a nap. I think, what’s planned to be 15 minutes long turned out into an hour afternoon nap like a baby ^^;

My boss got call from her superior, asking why so little titles are published. So, somehow she managed to squeeze out 12 titles from the progress. Some of that 12 is released in risky terms though.

All good today, except my office sandal ended its service, sadly. I walked barefooted around today :P

My brother is not home today too. Got much free time and re-started writing again. But time is too short, I passed my planned sleep hour again. So, good night.

Dragon Age 2009-01 (no download)

Got my Dragon Age magazine, 2009-01 edition.

New comic, Yamitsuki Maris (やみ憑きマリス). Hasn’t read this one, but the artwork looks good. Will update with review after i read it. But for short, seems like the main character is targeted by reincarnation of Kaguya Hime because he’s reincarnation of her servant in the past and someone who can show her the way to go back to the moon.

Hekikai no AiON, continuing last chapter’s phone call between Seine and the “devils” who gave her the immortal body. She mentioned that she had killed one mermaid, six left to go (going to be a long series again it seems). The mermaid starts to infect peoples closer to Tatsuya now, although it seems to be by coincidence. At the end, the two devils came, so maybe they’ll stay in the mansion too and make things more cheerful :D

Zeroin, I didn’t follow this title, but I think I know someone who’ll really love the new sniper character :D

Crimson Grave… well, waiting for the next installment, but not much to tell.

Chrome-Shelled Regios, this time is a prologue episode, about Leleen who’s going to Zuellni and in the way, got assisted by Layfong’s old comrade.

Gosick is entering the flashback, which explains what happened in the Queen Beryl ship 10 years ago. Not really a surprise, I’ve been told about it from someone who read the novel. They want to do divination about world war. Usually they use released wild rabbit tagged, and then hunted by dogs, to see which dies. But for countries, they used human children from various countries, and let them try to survive and kill each others in the sinking ship, to see which countries will survive.

Finally, Omamori Himari. A break after the last arc, this time it’s the school festival event. Himari is entering the miss contest (with swimsuit). Rather than the fan service, I actually liked the scene when Himari and Yuuto is alone in the empty class, before her swimsuit strap got entangled in his uniform’s button that is. Just showing the progress in their relationship.

And of course, this month she won the best 1 panel (first and second place) as well as favourite character of the month.

Valentine event

Yesterday, I stumbled upon an advertisement in Messenger, Valentine day event with the prize, a cruise for two to Alaska, and Lenovo S10 notebook for two. The campaign is titled Add Love to Live.

As a note, I’m in the ID (Indonesia) market and this campaign offer is only available for the South East Asia region. The contest procedure is, send photos with caption according to the event theme, describe the love pictured in it.

Talking about contest, although not from Live. The other blogging service I used, Hatena Diary, had a writing competition too, with Wii and Wii Fit for the winner.

This event is not a direct advertising campaign too. Described by the team, they want to help beginners to enjoy writing their diaries. Thus, the theme is mostly about new year activities and hopes.

Dentist

Without realizing it, today is Friday already. This means tomorrow is Saturday. I had plans for the two days actually, only I wonder how to organize them, besides, one depends heavily on the unpredictable weather situation.

P1000948 (1024x768)Continuing the announcement yesterday, we’re busy cleaning up books from the shelf. My part is from publishers we doesn’t regularly make contact with. Result is three cardboard boxes for me.

P1000955 (768x1024) The others, I remember there’s someone with seven or eight cardboard boxes for their part. Also there’s two more boxes with books to go to either the sale, or the incinerator.

Talking about the sale, yesterday I accompanied my friend to look for books in the sale. I also saw several questionable materials in the sale, although we should’ve sorted those out earlier. Well, my main question is actually, who the hell requested that book in the first place ? The author is not the type who made works that can be published here. Well, if I tell to the others, I’m sure we had single suspect though.

Pushing box filled tightly with around four layers of books (arranged on the spines) is difficult, damn heavy.

Back to the title. Went to the dentist today. She mentioned I should get a surgery as soon as possible to remove my wisdom tooth. Also she advertised a product to seal off some kind of microscopic fissure to prevent tooth decay. Not so sure yet.

Moving stuffs

Moving to the new office is still two and a half weeks away, but we’re starting to move stuffs already.

Yesterday, we picked out the Japanese books we’re not using anymore. These are either books that we already published, or those that we’ll never publish. Oh, and the 4+ years worth of subscribed comic magazines too. Those book will be sold in a clearance sale starting today at about €0.3 each. Really cheap, but better than burning them because they’re taking much space and difficult to move.

Today is our company’s birthday, 24th already. We went to the other building for birthday party event. I had two impressions about the opening.

First, the speech is long. I finished reading one and a half book.

Second is during the praying session. It amazed me how some management peoples I met could enter motivational speeches and pass it as a prayer. The activity is no longer communication with God, but made to be heard by the other humans there.

My work productivity is low today. Didn’t really pay attention. I’m sleepy most of the times, probably because of two main reasons. First, after installing Zune on my work PC, I listened music more. My experience in my previous two working place is that I’m not the type that works with music, I’ll get sleepy quick.

Second, because my brother is home, I tend to spend time outside in the living room and ends up sleeping later. Today, he’s worried of heavy rain that might left him stranded in the middle of inter-city highway (yes, there’s such incident) so he’s not home today. I’ll sleep earlier today ^^

Then, the coordinator told us to move the books too, because this Saturday, the racks with books will be moved to the new office floor.

Had a lot of proofs under my table too. Lots of work, need a serene place to finish it quick. *sigh*

Bug (?) with file

Today, I helped my brother installing a copy of Left 4 Dead in his notebook using Windows Vista Basic. The setup had problem accessing WinSxS (I wonder why), so I took the ownership of the folder.

Then, same permission problem encountered me on Windows 7. I usually resize my photos before uploading, so it doesn’t take too much time. I do so today, but then the files can’t be deleted.

I think deleted them through an interface (forgot), but when I check again, there’s still ghosts of those files (there, no data, unreadable owner and can’t be deleted).

Hope a restart would help.

Resorting Libraries

One of the features I like in Windows 7 is the Libraries. Well, something to do with way of thinking.

Windows used to have that My Documents, My Music, My Picture and My Video. These folders are located in user folder and the All User (Public) folder.

Vista made improvement by not nesting the three multimedia folders in My Documents.

These are available by default at the left side of explorer in Vista, but still, Windows assume user would keep all the multimedia files in their main (or single hard drive) in that deeply nested directory.

Libraries used something like Search Folders, specialized to be like joint View in database. Anyway, in short practical thing, I can see all those through a special folder “for music” (or pictures or videos, as you would like).

But there’s the folders are sorted by the time you include them to the Library. I tried dragging to no avail. Almost forgotten about the right click menu. Yes, it’s there, the Move Up and Move Down option. Satisfied :D

Book sales

This is unconfirmed information, so I make no guarantee for the truth of this leak.

The new office space is ready and we’ll be moving by the end of this month. Seeing from the map, I think the space is smaller than what we have currently. Also, due to what might be the upper managements’ artistic taste of corporate image, we, the back office workers, have to keep up with no place to put all those old books we had on our desks :P

Still concerning the moving. Starting tomorrow, there will be book sales here. I heard that they might also sell the old original Japanese book sent as samples, which has stayed for very long time in the storage and taking up space. Well, the choice is between clean up sales, or incinerator. Most will accept the first option right ?

Flood season

Finally flood season comes. If not for my camera, I'm thinking of not coming at all. Streets are congested, I wonder, how long would it takes to reach office.

Okay, saw knee deep waters already. Maybe half day work isn't such a bad idea.

[Add]

The situation near office is not that bad, at least for now. It’s a really bad timing isn’t it. We’re going to held a lot of events, and having flood will not help.
